A dozer
operating raw waste disposal on exposed ground is a thing of the
past.
Today's
landfills seek to accomplish two things: the prevention of waste
from escaping containment and keeping the geology predictably simple,
so if a leakage occurs, it can be predicted where the wastes will
go.
A secure
landfill is carefully engineered as a depression in-ground or a
containment cell built above-ground. The aim is to avoid any connection
between the wastes and surrounding environment, primarily groundwater.
Many
landfills are using steep side slopes as a way to increase capacity
and revenue. These slopes make liner choice critical. Textured liners
offer optimized frictional characteristics to keep the liner and
cover soil in place during operations.
