How cost effective is a geomembrane?
Geomembranes outlast and outperform many traditional materials. Their relative properties and availability make them exceptional alternatives when natural materials are either insufficient or non-existant.

Consideration of their use should include the overall reduction in maintenance in factoring their cost-effectiveness.

Can a liner stand up to sunlight?
UV resistance is product specific. PVC should have a covering of at least 12 inches of clean fill, with this it will last for decades.

If your needs dictate exposure to direct sunlight and environmental weathering or if no fill material is avaiable, take a look at the Hypalon, RPP, EPDM, HDPE. Each of these geomembrane products bring attributes to your project.

Will roots or vegetation bother a liner?
Liners resist root penetration.
This concern can be avoided by subgrade soils prepared to be free of roots and organic material.

What does mil thickness mean?
While geomembranes come in various mil thicknesses, it can be misleading to assume that "thicker is always better" as thickness does not directly correlate across products to puncture and abrasion resistance.

Liner thicknesses are determined by the project engineer based on project site specific conditions. The presence of a geotextile also can greatly affect properties (such as puncture resistance).

What does chemical resistance mean?
A liner is tested to survive exposure to a large variety of chemicals, even though the chemical could have some effects on the liner, without causing the liner to fail.

If you have a specific containment, please give us a call at 800-524-8672.

Can a liner be placed on a slope?
Slopes should be no greater than 3:1 and require mechanically securing a liner by means of an anchor trench around the perimeter.

See a project using an anchor trench

Steeper slopes or verticals require a mechanical attachment to a structure (usually concrete).
See a project using batten strips

What determines panel size?
Geomembranes that can be prefabricated at our facility can be up to 25,000 sf in size as a 'single' panel (material has already been welded or joined together). Size may be affected by the panel weight that can be efficiently handled in the field. Pre-fabricating geomembranes allows us to seam liner under exact conditions, reducing field seaming requirements and costs.

      More about Fabrication
Some geomembranes are shipped directly from the manufacturer (and are not pre-fabricated). These panels are 'laid out' in design form at our facility and assembled on site.

How viable are the field joints?
We perform destructive and non-destructive testing on all the seams we perform in the field. Our crews are fully certified.
