  CLAY LINERS:

Clay Liners are reinforced composites which combine two durable geotextile outer layers with a uniform core of natural sodium bentonite clay to form a very thin, tight hydraulic layer. In covered environmental applications, this material is utilized as an efficient and cost effective replacement for conventional compacted clay with long term performance in harsh environmental conditions.

Available in large rolls to expedite installation.
Increased containment volume - significantly reduces the required thickness of compacted clay liners.
    Superior hydraulic conductivity.
    High shear resistance.
Greater installation durability and ease of maintenance.
Minimum air space requirements. Since the clay liner can function when only an inch thick, it increases available air space.
Long-term performace in harsh environmental conditions.
USES:     Consider a Clay Liner for:
      composite linings
      secondary containment
      liquid containment
      canals
      surface impoundments

Composite Linings: Bentomat® Clay Liners can completely or partially replace thick, multilift compacted clay layers in composite landfill liners and caps due to the efficiency of the high swelling natural sodium bentonite clay.

Secondary Containment: Bentomat® are excellent for secondary containment barriers in aboveground tank farms due to the ease of installation and virtually effortless pipe penetration construction.

Liquid Containment and Canals: Bentomat® provides exceptional liquid containment in reservoirs and irrigation canals, as well as industrial ponds and lagoons, due to their low permeability and high internal shear strength.

Caps and Closures: Bentomat® GCLs are ideally suited for use in landfill caps and closures. Used alone or in conjunction with a geomembrane, these GCLs are resistant to the deleterious effects of differential settlement and seasonal temperature fluctuations.
DESIGN NOTES:

Clay Liners are available under the product name Bentomat® CLT (manufactured by CETCO.)

The Bentomat® needlepunching process consistently reinforces the bentonite layer with thousands of high tenacity fibers that resist and transfer the shearing stresses into the encapsulating geotextiles.

The uniform confinement provided by the fibers from this process resist lateral migration of the bentonite clay within the Bentomat® - in either a dry or hydrated state.

The needlepunched fibers are more durable over a wider range of installation conditions and greatly reduce the adverse effects of premature hydration during installation.

With Bentomat®, the clay component is no longer the limiting factor on side slopes. You can replace compacted clay layers on steep side slopes and be assured of low permeability without sacrificing slope stability. The inherent confining stress from the needlepunching also improves the hydraulic properties under low confining stress applications.
